Yarbo snow blower robot clearing a suburban driveway at dawn

Yarbo Snow Blower Review 2026: Y40 vs Y40P, Specs and Who It's For

Short answer: the Yarbo snow blower is the most complete residential robot snow blower you can buy in the U.S. right now, and for most driveways the Y40 Snow Blower is the pick. It pairs a tracked, RTK-GPS guided Core with a two-stage module that, according to Yarbo, clears a 24 inch path, takes in up to 12 inches of snow and throws it 6 to 40 feet. The newer Y40P Snow Blower System uses the same snow module on a faster, gearbox-free hub-motor Core and is rated for up to 7,000 sq ft per charge instead of 6,000. Choose the Y40P if you have a long driveway or plan to mow with it in summer; choose the Y40 if you want the lower entry point. This is a buyer's guide and spec review: we compare the two platforms using manufacturer data, not hands-on testing.

What is the Yarbo snow blower and how does it work?

Yarbo is a modular yard robot. A tracked base called the Core carries the battery, drive system and navigation, and task modules lock onto it: a snow blower in winter, a lawn mower or leaf blower the rest of the year. A "Yarbo snow blower" is simply a Core with the snow module attached.

Navigation is what separates it from a remote-control plow. The Core uses RTK-GPS plus AI vision, binocular cameras, bumper sensors and side cameras for pedestrian detection, so it can follow a mapped driveway edge on a schedule. You set work zones in the iOS or Android app, and the robot returns to its dock to recharge between passes. Yarbo rates the system for operation from -13°F to 113°F with IPX5 water resistance, and the Y40 Snow Blower package includes snow tracks for traction on packed snow and ice.

The smartest way to use it is little and often. Rather than digging out 10 inches at the end of a storm, the robot makes repeated passes through a few inches of fresh snow, which keeps the throw clean and the battery working efficiently. We covered this routine in more depth in our snow blower robot cost and setup guide.

Yarbo Y40 vs Y40P snow blower: what is the difference?

Both systems use the same updated snow module, which now includes motor-driven chute pitch adjustment, and both accept the same mower, leaf blower and trimmer modules. The difference is the Core underneath. The Y40P swaps the Y40's dual drive motors for gearbox-free dual hub motors, which raises the rated top drive speed from 0.65 to 1.2 m/s, and Yarbo states overall efficiency improves by about 15 percent.

Spec (manufacturer rated) Y40 Snow Blower Y40P Snow Blower System
Drive system Dual drive motors Gearbox-free dual hub motors
Max drive speed 0.65 m/s 1.2 m/s
Coverage per charge (1 in snow) Up to 6,000 sq ft Up to 7,000 sq ft
Clearing width / intake 24 in / 12 in 24 in / 12 in
Throw distance 6 to 40 ft 6 to 40 ft
Runtime / charge (20 to 80%) 1.5 hrs / 1.5 hrs 90 min / 90 min
Max snow-clearing slope 36% 36% (20°)
Operating temperature -13°F to 113°F -13°F to 113°F
Price $5,549 $7,099

In practice, the extra coverage matters most on long or wide driveways. If your paved area is well under 6,000 sq ft, the Y40 already clears it on one charge in light snow. If you have a long rural approach, a turnaround pad and walks, the Y40P's extra 1,000 sq ft per charge and faster transit between zones mean fewer trips back to the dock during a storm. The hub-motor drivetrain also removes gearbox upkeep, according to Yarbo.

How much does a Yarbo snow blower cost?

There are three ways in, depending on what you already own:

  • Complete Y40 system: the Y40 Snow Blower, currently $5,549, includes the Core, snow module, battery, dock, snow tracks and tow hitch.
  • Complete Y40P system: the Y40P Snow Blower System, currently $7,099.
  • Module only: if you already run a Yarbo mower, the Snow Blower Module is $2,000. Confirm your Core generation and compatibility first.

If you also want summer mowing, a two-season bundle usually beats buying the pieces separately, because you only pay for one Core. Our Yarbo modular system guide explains how the modules swap.

What do reviews say are the pros and cons?

Independent coverage lines up with the spec sheet. In its hands-on Yarbo snow blower review, PCWorld praised the robot's maneuverability, app scheduling and obstacle detection, while flagging the price, a time-consuming assembly and the need for proper snow tracks on icy surfaces. Pulling that together with Yarbo's own data:

Pros

  • Two-stage clearing with a 12 inch intake and up to 40 ft throw, rated by Yarbo.
  • Wire-free RTK-GPS and vision navigation with scheduled, repeat passes.
  • Cold-rated to -13°F, with auto return to the dock for recharging.
  • The same Core mows, blows leaves and trims the rest of the year.
  • 2-year limited warranty on eligible residential U.S. purchases.

Cons

  • A significant up-front cost compared with a gas snow blower.
  • Setup takes planning: an RTK antenna location, a mapped work area and a powered dock spot.
  • Snow-clearing slopes are limited to 36%, lower than the Core's general climb rating.
  • Not designed to dig out snow deeper than its 12 inch intake in one go.

Who should buy a Yarbo snow blower?

A Yarbo makes the most sense if you get frequent, moderate snowfall, need the driveway clear before work, and would rather not shovel or wait on a plow truck. It is an even stronger case if you also want a robot mower, because one Core covers both jobs. Pick the Y40 for a typical two or three car driveway, the Y40P for long or multi-zone properties, and the module only if a Yarbo already mows your lawn. If you see only a handful of light snowfalls each winter, a shovel is still the rational choice.

Timing matters too. Setting up and mapping the robot before the first storm is far easier than doing it in January, so fall is the best time to decide.

Yarbo snow blower FAQ

Is the Yarbo snow blower worth it?

For snow-belt homeowners who clear the driveway many times a winter, it can be, especially if you also use the Core for mowing. For light-snow areas with a short driveway, the cost is hard to justify.

How much snow can a Yarbo snow blower handle?

Yarbo rates the intake at 12 inches. It works best running during a storm so it never faces that much accumulation at once.

What is the difference between the Yarbo Y40 and Y40P?

The Y40P uses gearbox-free hub motors, rated for 1.2 m/s versus 0.65 m/s, and up to 7,000 sq ft per charge in 1 inch of snow versus 6,000. Both use the same snow module and attachments.

Does the Yarbo snow blower work on ice and slopes?

The Y40 Snow Blower package includes snow tracks for traction, and Yarbo rates snow clearing on slopes up to 36%. Steeper driveways need a closer look before buying.

Can I add the snow blower to my Yarbo mower?

Yes. The Snow Blower Module attaches to a compatible Yarbo Core, so existing owners can add winter clearing without buying a second robot.

Is the Yarbo snow blower loud?

Yarbo states the Y40P Core runs at around 60 dB on its own; the snow module and conditions add to total noise, so expect it to be louder when throwing snow.
